English Pub Tour

English Pubs

I've never met one I didn't like and popping into the pub to quaff a pint or two at your local in ole Blighty is a national pass time,  a rite and a chance to be sociable that's hard to pass up.  There's nothing like real English Ales if you like beer and there's plenty to choose from.  A lot of pubs have good pub grub.

Gosport Hampshire
Many pubs have beautiful inviting gardens out back with tables that beckon in the summer.  Most pubs have really interesting historical items on display which lend an old word feel to the atmosphere.  It is widely believed and particularly among the superstitious that it's bad luck to change a pub's name after buying it.

The Bun Penny, Stubbington, Lee On The Solent, Hampshire
.The Bun Penny, originally a 17 th century farmhouse, come coaching hotel and now a free-house.

The Osborne View Hill Head Hampshire

The Osborne,  so named for the view of HM Queen Victoria's residence on The Isle Of Wight across the Solent on a clear day.  The beach there was part of the many loading areas for the D-Day invasion.  The food is superb.

While most pubs have some kind of unique history the next one below,  The Red Lion,  in Southampton Hampshire is quite unique.  It's the oldest pub in Southampton and the first licensed ale house.  It has a Victorian front. The cellar is the original timber framed pub from Norman Times in the 12th century and  built from timbers salvaged from a shipwreck.  The apartments above were used by Henry V to try 3 conspirators who were subsequently sentenced to death. Two were beheaded and the third was drawn and quartered. This pub is reputed to have up to 20 ghosts that like to make appearances and the pub holds late night ghost hunts.
