WANDERLUST

WANDERLUST

WRITTEN BY J.R HILTON

2018

THE ARCHER SPLIT THE TREE
THE ENSUING SILENCE
SWALLOWED BY THE WOODS
MOUNTED BACK ON HIS STEED
CANTERING OFF DOWN THE TRAIL
STREWN WITH LEAVES
RIDING WEST WITH THE SUN
CROSSING GENTLE STREAMS
THAT RUN DOWN FROM LOFTY PEAKS

WHERE EAGLES FLY
THE STRONGEST SURVIVE
AND THE WEAKENED DIE
MOVING SLOWLY
 ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE
WANDERLUST ROMANTICIZED
SO MANY STARS FILL THE NIGHT SKY
BARELY ROOM FOR THE MOON
TO CROSS THE SKY

FORESTS DARK
 NEARLY DEVOID OF LIGHT
ON A BED OF MOSSY GREEN
NEAR A CLEAR RUNNING STREAM
SLEEP COMES EASY
TOO TIRED TO DREAM
DAWN COMES CREEPING UP
ON THE DYING FIRELIGHT
THE SUN BEGINS TO RISE
ENDING THE NIGHT

DEWY WEBS
 STRUNG ACROSS THE TRAIL
SPARKLE IN THE MORNING SUN
RIDING OUT TO GREET THE DAY
HEADLONG INTO THE PINES
WINDING THROUGH THE VALLEYS
AND THE PASSES IN BETWEEN

BEYOND THE BEAUTY
NOTHING BUT COTTON CLOUDS
IN A BLUE SKY
MESSENGER IN THE WIND
NOTHING TO SLOW HIM DOWN
ALL THE WORLD FOR A VIEW
ALL THIS WORLD FOR A HOME

JUST FOR SPEED
HE RIDES ALONE
SAGE IN HIS WISDOM TO LEAD
WANDERLUST TO FEED
DRINK FROM A MOUNTAIN SPRING
TWO HOUR RIDE FROM HERE
ON A MOUNTAINSIDE
HE TURNS HIS PAINT
AND LOOKS UP AT THE SKY
GETS THAT LOOK
IN HIS EYE, AND RIDES
