PRAIRIE SAGE
WRITTEN BY J.R HILTON
NOVEMBER 2017
OUT RIDING FENCES, ON A WINDSWEPT RANGE
SOMETIMES THIS LIFE SEEMS LONELY AND STRANGE
POKING THE FIRE, UNDER THE STARS
EMBRACING THE SILENCE, NO PEOPLE OR CARS
TIME ENOUGH TO THINK AND DREAM
BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP
COWBOY UP WITH THE DAWN
ALWAYS MOVING ON
ROMANTIC LIFE IN THE SADDLE
I DON'T THINK SO
JUST ANOTHER DAY OF HARD WORK
COMING MY WAY
DON'T YOU GO AND GET ME WRONG
I CHOSE THIS LIFE BECAUSE IT'S ALL I KNOW
BROKEN HEARTS AND LONLINESS
THAT'S SURE TO FOLLOW
DRIVES ME DOWN THE TRAIL
BREAKING HORSES, THROWING BALES
RIDING RANGE, THE MILES PASS BY
THE LIFE OF A COWBOY, HELLO GOODBYE
DRIVING CATTLE, CHOKING ON DUST
IT'S MY LIFE, IT'S A MUST
COWSLIP AND PRAIRIE SAGE
TUMBLEWEEDS TURN THE PAGE
ANOTHER DAY OLDER, AND WIZENED PERHAPS
MAYBE THIS LIFE HAS WHAT OTHERS LACK
COWBOY COFFEE AND STEW
AT THE END OF ANOTHER LONG DAY
RAINS COMING IN, THERE'S A STORM ON THE WAY
SUNRISE SOON FINDS ME, BREWING UP AGAIN
FORTIFYING FOR A LONG RIDE AHEAD
JUST ME AND OLD RED, RIDING INTO THE MORNING SUN
LIFE OF A COWBOY, GET IT DONE
ANOTHER SECTION OF FENCE REPAIRED
AND OFF TO FIND A NEW ONE, TO CHECK FOR WEAR
CALL THIS ROMANTIC BUT I BEG TO DIFFER
THERE'S NO WAY IT COMPARES
THE LIFE OF A COWBOY, WIND WEATHERED FACE
FROM TOO MANY STORMS AND TOO MANY SUN DRENCHED DAYS
LIVING UNDER THE SKY, WHERE I MAKE MY HOME
RIGHT HERE WHERE BISON USED TO ROAM
BEDROLL BENEATH THE STARS
I CAN SEE THE MILKY WAY
JUST BEFORE I CLOSE MY EYES
OUT RIDING FENCES, ON A WINDSWEPT RANGE
SOMETIMES THIS LIFE SEEMS LONELY AND STRANGE
TIME ENOUGH TO THINK AND DREAM
ALWAYS MOVING ON IT SEEMS
OUT RIDING FENCES IN THE POURING RAIN
SOAKED TO THE SKIN, NO ONE TO BLAME BUT MYSELF
FOR CHOOSING THIS LIFE
