OKAY TO DREAM
WRITTEN BY: J.R HILTON 2016 05 10
I LAY BACK IN THE FIELD
WITH MY HEAD UPON THE GRASS
I LOOK UP AT THE SKY
WATCHING EACH CLOUD PASS
FRAMED AGAINST GOLDEN ROD AND QUEEN ANNE'S LACE
NO WORRIES IN THE WORLD, A SMILE ON MY FACE
CLOUDS GO BY THEY LOOK LIKE THINGS
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE NEXT ONE BRINGS
THE VAGARIES OF INNOCENCE OF YOUTH
WITH IMAGINATION LIKE THAT WHO NEEDS PROOF
A SUDDEN BREEZE STIRS THE GRASS AROUND ME
LIKE WAVES UPON THE SEA
AND SUDDENLY I'M ON A SHIP BOUND FOR FARAWAY LANDS
ADVENTURE BARELY AWAITS ME
THE CALL OF SANDPIPER BRINGS ME BACK
TO THE PLACE WHERE I LAY
GOLDEN FROM THE SUN
SWEET TASTE OF FREEDOM
YES WE'VE COME A LONG LONG WAY
SOME DIDN'T MAKE IT, I'M SORRY TO SAY
FONDNESS MEMORIES MELT LIKE SNOWFLAKES ON THE GLASS
DON'T WORRY, THE NIGHTMARES WILL PASS
YOUR SHIP CRASHED ON THE ROCKS IN THE FOG
YOU COULDN'T HAVE KNOWN, WHICH WAY TO GO
I SAW YOU WHEN I LOOKED BACK, I TIPPED MY HAT
AS INNOCENCE OF YOUTH LEANS TOWARDS OBSCURITY
LEAVING BEHIND ALL MY SECURITY
INTO THE CITY LEAVING THE COUNTRY BEHIND
THE SOLITARY EXISTENCE THAT SUITED ME SO FINE
THE WIDE OPEN SPACES, NOT A SOUND COULD BE HEARD
MUST BE WHERE I LEARNED TO DREAM
YOU CAN'T TAKE THE COUNTRY OUT OF THE BOY
MY SOUL LIVES IN THE TREES
BESIDE A MOUNTAIN WITH A STREAM
IT'S OKAY TO DREAM
