HIGHWAY
WRITTEN BY JEFF R HILTON
2019
WE ROLLED UP ON THE GOOD TIMES
WE KEPT ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT
WE STOOD ATOP A MOUNTAIN
WITH THE MOON SHINING BRIGHT
WE SAT BY THE FIRE
A DRINK IN OUR HANDS
TALKING AND LAUGHING
MAKING ALL KINDS OF PLANS
WHERE WAS I
AS THE YEARS FLEW BY
AS THE DARKENED SKY
TURNED TO RAIN
TURNED THE PAGE
TO SOMETHING SAGE
ALL BUT GONE, IT ALL CHANGED
WHAT I THOUGHT WAS FREEDOM
WAS LOST IN THE IRONY
THE BELLS TOLLED AWAY
BUT I DIDN'T HEAR
I WAS SOMEWHERE FARAWAY
NOT EVEN NEAR
WHEN HOME DON'T FEEL
LIKE HOME NO MORE
ITS TIME TO GO MOVE ON
I TOOK MY HOPES
I TOOK MY DREAMS
OUT ON THE ROAD
NOTHING BUT MEMORIES
FONDLY THAT I HOLD
NO ONE OR NOTHING
TO HOLD ME DOWN
TRAVELING LIGHT
TRAVELING POOR
THAT WINTER SURE WAS COLD
I FELT THE NORTH WINDS BLOW
JUST ANOTHER LONELY SOUL
I STOOD IN THE SNOW
MY THUMB HELD HIGH
NO ONE THERE TO SAY GOODBYE
NO MATTER, THE WORLD IS WAITING
TAKE ME DOWN THE HIGHWAY
SLIPPING FARTHER WEST
MINUS SIXTY IN WINNIPEG
I BARELY GOT AWAY
ROLLING ACROSS THE PRAIRIES
JUST ANOTHER SOUL
I HAD TO KEEP ON GOING
A RENDEZVOUS WITH CHINOOK SKIES
WHERE I COULD HEAR THE EAGLES CRY
I STAYED AND MADE MY HOME
UNTIL THAT HIGHWAY
CALLS MY NAME AGAIN
I'LL STAY RIGHT HERE
IN THE SUN
