SPANISH GOLD
WRITTEN BY JEFFREY R HILTON
2018
A FULL MOON FILLS THE VIEW
ABOVE THE DARK SHADES OF THE HILLS
THAT SEEM TO SLEEP BELOW
THE SILENT NIGHT, THE STARS ALL AGLOW
CAST YOUR DOUBTS LIKE SHADOWS
INSIDE THESE SHORTER NIGHTS
AND LONGER DAYS
TEASED BY THE SUN
ABSORBED BY THE HEAT
COOLED BY THE WATER
THAT WASHES OVER OUR FEET
WATCHED BY THE TREES
WAITING FOR THE NEXT BREEZE
EYES PEELED ON THE WAVES
THAT GENTLY CARESS THE SHORE
ROLLING IN, ROLLING OUT
LEAVING NO DOUBTS BEHIND
THE DAY GOES ON SWEETLY
WITHOUT A HITCH
THE AFTERNOON GREETS US
LIKE SOME OLD FRIEND
WE NEVER THOUGHT WE'D SEE AGAIN
A SWEET SUMMER SONG
YOU CAN'T HELP BUT TO SING ALONG
YOU SEEM TO KNOW THE WORDS SO WELL
AND OFF THE COAST
THE SAILS GO TO AND FRO
THE SUN BEGINS TO GLOW
LIKE SPANISH GOLD
AND THIS PIECE OF COASTLINE
IS HEAVEN ON EARTH
WHEN THE SUN SETS
THERE'S ALWAYS A SHOW
ALL THE COLORS THAT YOU'VE SEEN
AND SOME THAT YOU DON'T KNOW
ADD TO THE PALLETTE
ANOTHER DAYS ALL BUT DONE
AS FIERY RED SKIES FADE AWAY
INTO ANOTHER AUGUST NIGHT
SOMETHING TO DRAW YOU BACK
AGAIN, AND AGAIN
UNTIL YOU LEARN TO STAY
GET IT RIGHT SO YOU
CAN PLAY ALONG WITH THAT
SWEET SUMMER SONG
YES IT WON'T BE LONG
BEFORE THE SUN STARS TO GLOW
LIKE SPANISH GOLD
THIS IS THE KIND OF PLACE
THAT NEVER GETS OLD
I COULD LIVE AND DIE HERE
MY HEART BELONGS HERE
IT WAS JUST A DREAM
BUT I'D ALREADY SEEN
FELT IT COMING TO YOU AND I
I CAN'T HELP FEEL ITS TIME
A PHOENIX RISING FROM THE ASH
THE SILENT NIGHT ALL AGLOW
CAST AWAY YOUR DOUBTS LET'S GO
