REFLECTIONS IN THE SUNSET
(GOODBYE)
WRITTEN BY J.R HILTON
2017
IT'S BEEN A LONG LONG RUN
AND NOW I THINK IT'S CLOSE TO DONE
MOUNTAINS OF SORROW
RIVERS OF JOY
BOTH RUN THROUGH MY VEINS
EVERYTHING ALIKE
BUT NOTHING THE SAME
CIRCULATING JUST LIKE THE SUN
AS LIFE SLOWLY EBBS AWAY
I GUESS I'VE DONE IT
CLOSE TO ALL
THE THINGS THAT I MISSED
DON'T MEAN MUCH AT ALL NOW
AND MOST OF WHAT I'VE SEEN
LEFT ME ENTHRALLED
THE LESSONS THAT I HAD TO LEARN
ALL THE TIMES I CRASHED AND BURNED
MANY LESSONS TWICE OR MORE
WHAT IS WRONG AND WHAT IS RIGHT
LEADING WITH MY HEART WAS WRONG
I GUESS I KNEW IT ALL ALONG
SOMETIMES YOUR DEMONS NEVER GO AWAY
IT'S ALL YOU CAN DO, JUST TO HOLD THEM AT BAY
THE WIRE THAT HOLDS THEM BACK IS OLD AND FRAYED
THE MILES IN BETWEEN
ALL THE THINGS I'VE SEEN, ARE MANY
AND THE TIMES NOT FILLED WITH STRUGGLES ARE FEW
I PASSED SO MANY MILESTONES
IT WAS NEVER EASY
BUT I GOT ALONG
SOMETIMES JUST BARELY
SOMETIMES NOT AT ALL
SOMETIMES I COULDN'T WALK, I HAD TO CRAWL
JUST TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD
KEEP MY DARK THOUGHTS AT ARMS LENGTH
CAREFUL HOW YOU THINK
CAREFUL HOW YOU SAY
YOU HAVE TO BE SO CAREFUL
ABOUT EVERYTHING THESE DAYS
LOOKING BACKWARDS INTO THE CLOUDS OF TIME
IF I SAW THEM ONCE
I SAW THEM A THOUSAND TIMES
ETCHED INTO MY MIND
BURNING BRIDGES THAT I CROSSED
THE CINDERS FELL INTO SWIRLING WATERS
BUT THE LESSONS WERE NEVER LOST
THE GOOD THINGS THAT I KEPT
HELPED ME TO FORGET
THE THINGS I THREW AWAY
THERE'S NO REDEMPTION IN REGRET
THE SUNSET PEEKING THROUGH THE PINES
IS GETTING DIM
JUST LIKE MY OWN EYES
MY LIFE IS JUST A WHIM
A FANCIFUL EXISTENCE
PLAYING AGAINST TIME
IT'S TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
