THE BEST OF DAYS
Written by: J.R
HILTON, May 2016
I remember the days
that shone so bright
Such was my life then
everything so right
Didn’t have a worry
and barely a care
I had the best of
times while I was there
My spirit was free as
my will
Adventures, One after
another, I couldn’t get my fill
I look around me
now. And wonder where it all went
It ran its course, It
seen its day
Like an ancient
river, Fading away
I filled my cup with
soft summer nights; I lay in fields and watched the skies
So many hellos and
just as many goodbyes
All the things that
mattered gone, That didn’t take so long
But a lifetime has
passed and a new one at last
I remember days
filled with laughter
Floating down a river
in the morning sun
Sitting by the fire
when the day was done
Always someone to
count on, Now I’m flying alone
My mates are all
scattered, Far and wide
Both sides of the
great divide
And faraway across
the sea, on an English beach
The best days hang
there just out of reach
I’m sure we could make it if we try
Where
the sun shines, In the cool breeze from the lake
The sun shines on
each moment we take
I don’t need to tell
you, change will come
The best days have
all been won
I hate to say, But I
think, that’s gonna be the way
