FRIDAY NIGHT HAS COME AROUND, BUT I'M DOWN
WORKED ALL WEEK, TRIED TO GET AHEAD
LATELY THAT'S A FIGHT, I'M LOSING GROUND INSTEAD
KICKING BACK KILLING TIME
LISTENING TO OLD FAVORITES OF MINE
SITTING HERE REMINISCING, AND TAKING STOCK
ON EVERYTHING THAT'S MISSING, AND THERE'S SUCH A LOT
COME TO PASS, AND SO MUCH MORE, NOTHING EVER LASTS
ME OH MY, I'M GETTING HIGH
WATCHING LITTLE BIRDS FLYING ALL AROUND ME
IN THE WOODS, HOW DID THEY FIND ME
WE WERE ALL, WAITING FOR THE SPRING
AND WHAT JOYS IT MIGHT BRING
SUNNY WEATHER, TRACKING THROUGH THE WOODS
SUN RAYS, BREAKING THROUGH THE SUMMER TREES
A BABBLING BROOK, AND A LITTLE BREEZE
THIS IS NATURE, SHE'S MY CHURCH
MOTHER EARTH, WON'T YOU SMILE ON ME
SHOW ME, HOW IT OUGHT TO BE
ALL YOUR SCENERY, WITH PEACE IN MY HEART
WHAT BETTER PLACE TO START
HANGING BY A THREAD, IN THE BALANCE OF
AN EVER CHANGING WORLD
TRYING TO GO ALONG, AS MUCH AS TRYING TO STAY
TRYING TO BE STRONG, TRYING TO FIGURE IT ALL OUT
AND THERE'S SO MUCH TO FIGURE OUT
MUCH OF IT CAST IN DOUBT
SITTING HERE, DRINKING A BEER
LISTENING TO SOME OLD FAVORITES OF MINE
REMEMBERING WHEN EVERYTHING WAS JUST FINE

DISC GOLF HITS NEW HEIGHTS IN POPULARITY
Article Written By: J.R HILTON
Disc Golf has actually been around for a long time in it's crude form. Earliest games were played using tin lids and (known as tin plate golf) thrown at prearranged targets.
The sport has been updated and improved over the years and is steadily gaining new popularity around the world in forty countries. The annual growth rate for this sport is approximately,12-15%.

The modern game has it's origins in Frisbee throwing which peaked in the 1970's at the Canadian Open Frisbee Championships in Toronto.
The discs used in disc golf are 8"-9" in diameter and weigh in from 120-180 Grams. Much heavier than the original Frisbee. These discs are very likely to injure or even kill you if you get hit in the head with one, so it's always a good idea to keep heads up on the course for errant shots or someone being too impatient for you and throwing before you are clear of the basket. Modern Golf Discs were invented in 1983 by Dave Dunipace. Dave is one of the founders of Innova.

This game is such a great form of exercise and what could be better than free exercise and fresh air?
It takes some skill and time to develop good throwing techniques that yield great results. There are some very good and highly skilled players and lots of beginners.
I only took up the sport myself recently.
I started when there was still snow on the ground.

All you need to start playing is a putting disc and a driver disc. Things after that, are a bag to carry discs in, along with a water bottle. Disc Golf bags are available. A small towel is a good addition to your bag to wipe off any debris on your discs, and I have mine attached to my bag by a carbiner clip. It's important to bring water or juice because some of the 18 hole courses are a long walk and in good weather it can get pretty hot out there.
Disc Golf shoes are available, but good old running shoes are your best bet, unless you are playing at Canmore's Nordic course which recommends hiking boots.
Discs are available for sale at only a few locations in Calgary,thus-far. Dons Hobby Shop at One block south of Center St.and 16th Ave is where the first shop is with Disc Golf supplies. The other being at 1110 Gladstone Rd. N.W. in the Kensington area.(Lifesport)
Discs are divided into categories of weight, fade, stability and speed.

You have: Drivers, Mid Range, and Putters.
There are at least eight manufacturers of discs.
The two most popular being Innova and Discraft.
Daredevil Discs or Latitude 64 are just two others.

Daredevil Discs or Latitude 64 are just two others.
Drivers are divided into categories of fairway drivers, distance drivers, and long distance drivers.
Mid Range discs are for just that, and also can be considered an all purpose disc.
Putting discs are for short and medium shots near the basket.
Tee Offs are usually marked with a circular marker made from rubber or cement. Some courses have signage indicating par for the hole and the lay of the fairway leading to the basket.
The main throwing styles are backhand or forehand, a.k.a sidearm. Other throws are the Tomahawk or Hatchet, which are usually employed to throw out of a woods or thicket.
A few different putting styles also exist, one being the power putt, which is said to be very accurate when performed properly.
These discs are not thrown like a regular frisbee.
The main method is to throw using a five finger power grip where all five fingers are employed under the disc and the thumb rests on top of the disc.
When releasing your shot, it is important to have your throwing arm kept at level and when you get to the release stage, you stop your arm and flick or snap the disc without following your arm through. If your arm follows through, the disc will go off to the right and out of bounds. The release is a quick snap similar to snapping a towel.
There are many available videos about disc golf on You Tube
and if you are considering taking up the game, I highly recommend watching some.
As far as stability ratings go on discs, there are understable discs, which usually track or bank to the right near the end of flight while overstable usually tracks or banks left.
Stability is measured in turn and fade of flight.
Fade being how the disc performs at low speed near the end of flight.
Ordinary fairway drivers are usually the best bet for beginners.
Scoring is similar to regular golf.
A Condor would be 4 under par or -4
Albatross or Double Eagle would be 3 under par or - 3
Eagle or Double Birdie would be 2 under par or -2
Birdie would be 1 under par or -1
Par would be 0
Bogie would be one throw under par
Double Bogie would be 2 over par
Triple would be 3 over
Here in Alberta, there are a multitude of courses.
These courses are in Calgary, Cold Lake, Canmore, Cardston, Edmonton, Lloydminster, Nordegg, Spruce Grove, Three Hills, Red Deer, Drumheller,Grand Prairie, Wetaskawin, Lethbridge, Strathmore, Red Wood Meadows, Olds, Strathcona, Sundre, and Wayne.
In Calgary there are presently 4 courses.
The amount of parents coming out to the courses with their kids is increasing and that's really great to see.
I hope this article has been helpful and look forward to seeing some of you on these courses.

BEST OF ME
Written by J.R HILTON 2016
DIDN'T I EXPLAIN, ALL THIS TO YOU
HOW IT ALL WOULD WORK
LOVE AND ADMIRATION GROW WITH TIME
IT'S A SHAME THAT I HAD TO WASTE SO MUCH OF MINE
WHY COULDN'T WE HAVE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FROM THE START
TIME WOULDN'T ALLOW IT, KEPT US APART
FOR EVERYTHING A REASON, SOME WE'LL NEVER KNOW
AND WE MAY NOT UNDERSTAND, ALL THE ONES THAT SHOW
TWO KINDRED SOULS, DREAMS DRIFTING WITH THE STARS
WE MAY NOT HAVE MUCH, BUT THE LOVE WE HAVE IS ALL OURS
IF SEASONS CHANGE, WITH YOU BESIDE ME
MAYBE THEY WON'T TRY TO DIVIDE ME
THE TIME IT TAKES, TO REALIZE YOUR DREAMS
SOMETIMES SPANS MANY YEARS, OR SO IT SEEMS
SEEMS LIKE A LIFETIME, THESE LIVES THAT I'VE LIVED
SOME JUST TOOK, BUT WOULD NEVER GIVE
AND NOW THERE IS YOU AND I
KNEW I WANTED TO TRY
THE YEARS I SPENT DREAMING, DIDN'T GO TO WASTE
NOW I'M THE PERSON, I SHOULD OF ALWAYS BEEN
YOU'VE GOT THE BEST OF ME, THE ONE THAT TOOK SO LONG
IN BETWEEN THE PAGES OF YOUR LIFE
RIGHT THERE IN BLACK AND WHITE
WHAT YOU MISSED, AND WHAT YOU GOT RIGHT
THROUGH THE DARKNESS, TO THE LIGHT
AND RIGHT INTO YOUR ARMS
THE LOVE OF MY LIFE

TURN YOUR LOVE ON ME
WRITTEN BY: J.R HILTON 2016
NOTHING YOU COULD DO, NOTHING YOU COULD SAY
COULD CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT YOU, IN ANY WAY
ALL MY SIGHTS ARE SET ON YOU
AND IF YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY TO
WE'LL CATCH THE SUN TOGETHER
WATCH IT RISE AND SET
START FROM THE BOTTOM, WORK OUR WAY UP
TAKE WHAT WE CAN GET
DO YOU BELIEVE IN DREAMING
BELIEVE DREAMS COME TRUE
DO YOU BELIEVE IN ME, LIKE I BELIEVE IN YOU
IN THIS WORLD DIVIDED, NO GUARANTEES OF LOVE
NOT MUCH PROVIDED
SO IF IT FINDS YOU
YOU BETTER BE PREPARED, TO HOLD ON TIGHT
TREAT YOUR LOVE GOOD WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT
LOVE GLOWS, AND LOVE KNOWS, A BEAUTIFUL THING
LIFE GOES ON AND SPEEDS UP TIME
AND SLOWS IT DOWN JUST THE SAME
TURN YOUR LOVE ON ME
IT'S TIME THAT WE SEE
HOW BIG IT CAN BE
LOVE NEEDS SOMEONE TO CARE
YOU AND I, ARE ON IT THERE
HEARTS AND BUTTERFLIES
EVERYTHING IS FLYING OFF THE GROUND
THE STORIES IN MY EYES
FILL THE PAGES WITHIN
OUR TURN AGAIN, OUR CHANCE TO SHINE
OUR TURN TO STAND
TOGETHER FOR ALL WE ARE
ALL THAT WE CAN BE JUST REMAINS TO BE SEEN
ASK YOURSELF, WHERE LOVE HAS BEEN

UNTIL WE'RE NOT HERE
Written by: J.R Hilton 2016
TOMORROWS NEVER PROMISED, TODAY WAS BLESSED
WE'RE JUST LUCKY, FOR ALL THE REST
SO DO WHAT YOU'VE GOT TO DO
SAY WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND
HOLD THE ONES YOU LOVE, A LITTLE CLOSER
MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE KIND
GIVE YOUR LOVE FREELY, LET IT FLY
WE'LL GET BY, JUST FINE
WE PUT OFF TOO MANY THINGS
COUNTING WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS
HARDLY REALIZING HOW FRAGILE OUR PLACE IS HERE
NOBODY LIKES TO TALK ABOUT IT
BUT TOMORROW DOESN'T GUARANTEE YOU'LL BE HERE
COULD IT BE ANY MORE CLEAR
JUST GO AND DO IT, HAPPINESS WITH A SMILE
IF YOU'RE LUCKY, IT'LL BE A LONG WHILE
WE'RE ONLY HERE UNTIL, WE'RE NOT HERE
YOU AND I, HAVE LOOSE ENDS TO TIE
SO MANY THINGS THAT WE NEED TO DO
PLACES WE THAT WE NEED TO SEE
PLACES WHERE WE WANT TO BE
BEFORE WE LEAVE HERE
BEFORE THE DARKEST DAY, IN YOUR LIFE
RUNAWAY, TO WHERE YOU NEED TO GO
WHERE MOUNTAINS RISE, OR RIVERS FLOW
NO MORE TIME FOR FOOLISH GAMES
NO,THINGS HAVE TO CHANGE
BREATHE MORE LIFE INTO ME
WIND ME UP AND LET ME GO
YOU JUST NEVER KNOW
BUT YA HAVE TO GO, SOONER OR LATER
I DON'T WANT TO GO
BUT YOU JUST NEVER KNOW

PROMISES OF SUMMER
Written by: J.R Hilton
LIFE AWAKENS FROM WINTERS SLEEP
DROPS OF WATER BEGIN TO SEEP
GEESE ARE ON THE WING AGAIN
WITH THE PROMISE OF SPRING
LOVE AND DESIRE, COLD WAITING BY THE FIRE
WAITING FOR THE SUNS EMBRACE
WAITING FOR THE SUN TO KISS THIS PLACE
PROMISES OF SUMMER MELT THE COLDEST HEARTS
A SMILE, A WAVE, A NOD, THAT'S HOW IT STARTS
YOU'VE ENTERED THE CIRCLE, THE CYCLE BEGINS
IT STARTS HERE BUT IT NEVER ENDS
LOVE SHINES LIKE THE SUN
EVERYBODY TRYING TO CATCH SOME
HOPE THE GOOD WEATHER HOLDS, WHILE LOVE UNFOLDS
EVERYONE WALKING BY, SEEMS TO HAVE LOVE IN THEIR EYES
VENUS IS RISING BEFORE ME
SHES GOT THAT LOOK IN HER EYES
THE GODESS OF SUMMER NOT TO BE OUTDONE
HAS EVERYBODY ON THE RUN AS SHE DIALS UP THE SUN
LOOKING FOR A BREEZE
FIND THE SAND AND THE COOLING SEAS
TAKE LOVE WITH YOU, WHEREVER YOU MAY GO
LOVE IS SUMMER, SUMMER IS LOVE
SHINING DOWN LIKE THE SUN ABOVE
TOUCHING EVERYTHING, TOUCHING EVERYONE

UNLOCKING MEMORIES
Written by: J.R HILTON
2016
ANGELS DANCING BENEATH THE STARS
WHILE FAIRIES LOOK ON AND LAUGH
THE FOREST HEAVES A SIGH
AS DUSK FALLS ON THE DAY
THE EVENING WIND PICKS UP BEGINS TO CRY
THEN AS SUDDENLY AS IT BEGAN, IT STOPS
WHISPERED HUSHES UNDER A WANING MOON
WILDFLOWERS SLEEP IN MEADOWS
SIPPING MORNING DEW
WAITING FOR THE SUN, WHEN THE NIGHT IS DONE
AND JUST LIKE THAT LIFE GOES ON
DOWN BY THE SEA, THE SUN IS TURNING
THE WATER INTO GOLD
UNLOCKING MEMORIES, THAT EACH OF US HOLD
WALKING DOWN THE BEACH, FOR MILES AT A TIME
NEVER GETTING TIRED OF WHAT I SEE
GIVE ME A WIDE OPEN ROAD
TO A WIDE OPEN FIELD
TO A STREAM IN THE WOODS, CANOPIED AND CONCEALED
GIVE ME A MOUNTAIN TO CLIMB, OR JUST TO ADMIRE
GIVE ME A LAKESIDE, SITTING BY THE FIRE
DEEPLY SATISFIED AND FREE
WHEN MOONLIGHT FALLS ON SUMMER NIGHTS
YOU FEEL IT DOWN SO DEEP
THE MEMORIES, THE FACES, THE LAUGHTER, AND THE TEARS
YOU'VE ALWAYS HAD IT RIGHT
YOU'RE FEELING FREE UNDER A BIG BLUE SKY
TO BE YOURSELF. TO SEE YOURSELF
SURROUNDED BY THE MAGIC THAT'S ALWAYS THERE
