DOG LOVER FOR LIFE

DOG LOVER FOR LIFE

Dogs have been a best friend of man for 1000's of years. Although their relationships and purposes varied, one common theme has remained and that is one of a faithful and loyal companion. It's often sad to see that there are varying degrees of what people deem as dog ownership in regards to their well being and care.

There are always people around that have bigger hearts than their own ability to maintain an ongoing healthy relationship with the dog. Yes I'm talking about Rescue Dogs. While it's a noble gesture, most people don't realize how psychologically damaged some of these dogs can be and the time and patience needed for such an animal. Taking on a rescue dog is a huge responsibility and for those that are willing to rescue a dog and put in the extra work and expertise it takes to rehabilitate them along with all the kindness, you are to be commended.

It takes a lot more than a big heart and willingness to succeed at rehab. Behavioral problems can develop or exist in any dog but a dog that has been abused can be especially challenging to even get them to gain your complete trust.
If there is a message I am trying to convey, it is that any fool can own a dog, but it takes a true dog lover to patiently work through problems as they arise and to willingly seek out advice from experts on such matters and particularly to own a rescue dog.

These dogs often come with little or no information as to what the dog has been through, the exception being the information gathered from the dogs condition, behaviors and present reactions to his surroundings and his charges.

The amount of free dogs available online now is alarming but certainly the right place to start looking and highly recommended rather than supporting a surplus of breeder
supplied dogs at inflated prices. If you are on a tight budget and looking for a certain breed to come up free, be patient and vigilant, it will show up. Always get a dog that has habits that reflect your own lifestyle. Match this as closely as you can but remember all dogs need exercise and stimulation. Some much more than others.

Safety Tips and Alerts

Never, I repeat never buy dog treats from dollar stores and particularly if they are from China as many dogs in North America have reportedly died lately from consuming these.

Always be vigilant about your dog being in your backyard in regards to someone trying to poison your dog by throwing poisoned food into your yard. this occurs more often than you think as there are many people out there that do hate dogs and are sadistic and nasty enough to do such a thing. Often it's a dog that's left in the yard a lot and constantly barks. Some of these people would rather poison your dog than call animal services. Sad but true. I know of at least one person that had a note anonymously put in his mailbox saying that the writer would kill his dogs if he didn't shut them up.
