  1. Sir,

The word Nazi is actually a conjoining of the official term "Nationalsozialist" or National Socialist. There is no bavarian term of that nature, to my knowledge. While I am not a bavarian, I am german speaking. In as far as that is the same race, that is. :p

  2. Also, as an aside: Your history of the Microdot is incorrect. Miniaturised messages were already used in the 1870/71 war between Germany and France. Afaik, these miniaturised messages were carried out of besieged Paris via carrier pigeon and/ or possibly balloons. Unfortunately I cannot give exact references, but the article appeared in a german magazine called "Hobby", late 1950's.

Official spy history credits the Germans with first using microdots on a large scale to run their spy networks in the USA. This was revealed to the FBI by a mole recruited and trained as agent by the Germans, actually working for the Americans. (Source: The Reader's Digest book, "Secrets and Spies")The search for this new medium was prompted by the remark of a Harald Sebold, the agents trainer, who told the aspiring agents to "watch out for lots of little dots".

Even then discovery was almost accidental. An alert censor noticed that a full stop on a typed page reflected the light when held up at an angle.

  3. Hi
Whilst I enjoyed reading your blog it does contain a lot of inaccuracies, you say that when the Indianapolis went down she lost 200,000 men when in fact she had a crew of 1,196. 300 went down with the ship and 900 managed to jump into the water, and of these only 317 survived.

Captain Charle McVay was indeed court martialed for failing to zig zag, but the sentence was remitted and he was restored to active duty and finally retired in 1949.
