Times Long Gone

TIMES LONG GONE

WRITTEN BY J.R HILTON

2018

WOKE UP THIS MORNING WITH THE DAWN
GRABBED MY COFFEE AND I WAS GONE
I DROVE INTO THE SUN
ROLLING ACROSS THE PRAIRIE
LIT UP FOR THE RUN
WIDE OPEN SPACES
ROUNDING OUT MY SOUL

I TURN NORTH, PASSING BY OLD FARMS
THEIR CHARMS HIDDEN IN THE TREES
OLD TRUCKS RUSTING IN THE FIELD
LONG PAST THEIR LAST MILE
OLD WINDMILL LONG SEIZED
RUSTY DINNER BELL
HANGING FROM THE PORCH
OLD TRACTOR IN THE TALL GRASS
I CAN PICTURE CLOTHES BLOWING
ON THIS OLD CLOTHESLINE

THERE'S HORSES GRAZING
IN A FIELD NEARBY
PASTORAL TO THE POINT
OF A SILENT SADNESS
THAT RINGS IN TIMES LONG GONE
MAYBE IT'S JUST ME
TRYING TO HOLD ON

WHAT HIDDEN TREASURES TO DISCOVER
LITTLE BRIDGE COUNTRY STREAM
IN THE TREES A PLACE TO SIT AND DREAM
OLD CORN CRIBS FORGOTTEN IN TIME
BARN WITH A BROKEN BACK
OLD TIMES GOOD TIMES IN THE COUNTRY SUN
WORKING IN THE FIELDS TILL DARK
CRY OF A MEADOWLARK
SLEEPING LIKE A STONE

OH THE TIMES WE HAD
THE TIMES WE LOST
TIMES WE REWIND JUST TO LOOK IN AGAIN
AFTER I'VE BEEN WHERE I'VE BEEN
DAYS IN THE COUNTRY SUN
NEVER WONDERING WHAT TO DO
NO TIME FOR FEELING BLUE
I REMEMBER ALL TOO WELL
THE INNOCENCE OF THOSE DAYS

SITTING BACK AGAINST AN OAK IN THE SHADE
SIPPING ON A COKE, I WAS KING
IF I DIDN'T HAVE IT, I DIDN'T NEED A THING
FIELDS OF GREEN I HAVE SEEN
TURN TO GOLD IN THE COUNTRY SUN
I'M A COUNTRY BOY, AND I'LL ALWAYS BE ONE
THE TIMES LONG GONE
BUT THE FEELINGS ARE STILL STRONG
GREW UP STRAIGHT AND TALL
DON'T TAKE NO GUFF AT ALL
I'll ALWAYS STAND MY GROUND
