ONE WAY RIDE
WRITTEN BY J.R HILTON
2017
STANDING ON A HILL IN FADING SUMMER LIGHT
LOOKING OUT ACROSS THE VIEW
SKIES OF SWIRLING VIOLET AND CAYMAN BLUE
AS THE SUN GOES DOWN AND LEAVES A GLOW
THE NIGHT CREEPS IN ON ME
AS I DRINK IN THIS SERENITY
THE MOON IS STANDING WITH THE STARS
AS THE PAGE TURNS ON THE NIGHT
LIKE THE SWITCH OF A LIGHT
AND AS I PONDER AGE OLD QUESTIONS
THE UNIVERSE PROVIDES
WAY BEYOND THE SUN THE MOON, THE TIDES
THERE'S A COMFORT ONLY GAINED BY THE NIGHT
IF YOU'VE GOT IT HOLD ON TIGHT
SOMETIMES YOU CAN FIND THE ANSWERS
RIGHT THERE IN THE STARS
LIKE THE MOON I WAX AND WANE
I LOSE OR I GAIN
BUT IT NEVER STOPS IT NEVER ENDS
AS I TRAVEL THROUGH THIS CIRCLE OF LIFE
WITH TREMBLING HANDS AND FAILING EYES
IT KEEPS GOING AROUND
OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN
IT WON'T STOP
I COULDN'T GET OFF IF I TRIED
IT'S A ONE WAY RIDE
HANG YOUR HOPES ON LUCK OR FATE
DON'T TAKE CHANCES, SIT AND WAIT
NEVER WON THE RACE
NEVER COMES CLOSE TO FIRST PLACE
WHEN I'VE HAD ENOUGH, OH IT WON'T TAKE LONG
UNTIL YOU FEEL LIKE YOU BELONG
PULLING ME BOTH WAYS SO I CAN'T MOVE
STUCK IN TIME AND PLACE
STOPPED COLD FROM SAVING FACE
MIRED MIGHT NEED A HOOK TO SET ME FREE
