I WATCHED IT GO
Written by: J.R HILTON 2016 O4 15
PERFECT SUMMER MORNING, CLASSIC SUMMER DAY
NOTHING'S GOING TO GET IN THE WAY
IT WAS 1974, I FELT SO ALIVE AND READY
I LOOKED AROUND ME TO SEE IF I COULD SHARE
TO MY SURPRISE, NO ONE WAS THERE
JUST ANOTHER SIGN THAT THIS OLD TOWN
HAS COME AND GONE, HAD IT'S DAY IN THE SUN
I KNEW IT WAS TIME TO RUN
I'D NEVER FIND IT THERE
***
SET OUT TO SEE THE WORLD
PUT MY FAITH IN THE OPEN ROAD
WASN'T EVEN SURE WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR
SO I LOOKED SOME MORE
STOPPED ALONG THE WAY
JUST LONG ENOUGH TO BREAK MY HEART
AND STEAL ALL MY TIME
NEVER SEEN IT COMING, BUT I WATCHED IT GO
DIDN'T EVER COME BACK
FADED IN THE WESTERN GLOW
JUST THOUGHT I'D LET YOU KNOW
***
WERE WERE ALL SO BULLETPROOF
OUR WHOLE LIVES AHEAD OF US
SO WHY WERE WE IN SUCH A HURRY, SUCH A RUSH
THE DAYS THAT WE HELD DEAR
ONLY IN MEMORY, NEVER TO FORGET
IF WE'D ONLY KNOWN, THE SWEETNESS WE HELD
THEN WE JUST LET IT GO
HOW WERE WE TO KNOW
THE TREASURE WAS OUR YOUTH
THE THINGS WE DID TO PASS THE TIME
WAS INNOCENCE AT IT'S BEST
THE TIME WENT BY SO FAST
IT'S BEEN QUITE A GO
JUST THOUGHT I'D LET YOU KNOW
