Poem: Reminisce

Just a poem about years long gone by.

REMINISCE

WRITTEN BY: J.R HILTON

DECEMBER  2016

LOOKING BACK ON THE SERENITY
OF MY YESTERYEAR'S
THE QUIET TIMES, AND WHAT I FEARED
IMAGINED OR REAL
SOME OF IT I STILL FEEL
OUT IN THE FIELDS WORKING ALL DAY
DRIVING THE TRACTOR, BAILING HAY
SUNNY HOT SUMMER DAY
ONE THING ON MY MIND
GETTING FINISHED ON TIME

STANDING OUTSIDE, LOOKING AT THE MOON
OR THE SUN
FRAMED BETWEEN THE PINES
PUT ME AT PEACE EVERYTIME
I STILL HAVE THAT PICTURE RIGHT HERE IN MY MIND

IN THE WINTER WOODS
ALL BY MYSELF
ONLY SOUND I HEAR
IS THE LONESOME WHISTLE
OF SOME OLD TRAIN ON THE RUN
FOLLOWING RABBIT TRACKS, JUST FOR FUN
 SITTING IN A STONE BOAT
HOLDING ON FOR DEAR LIFE
LOOKING FOR ROCKS, LEFT AND RIGHT

PEDDLING  DOWN TO THE CREEK
WIND AT OUR BACKS
ON A WINNING STREAK
MY FRIENDS AND I
PLAYING IN THE SUN
SPLASHING IN THE WATER
HAVING US SOME FUN
NO ONE WANTS TO LEAVE
BUT WE ALL LEAVE TOGETHER
OUR SKIN ALL AGLOW
OUR EYES SPARKLING WITH MISCHIEVOUS YOUTH

I DON'T LIKE TO LIVE IN THE PAST
BUT SOMETIMES I GO THERE WHEN
I THINK THE FUTURE WON'T LAST
TIMES WERE SO GENTLE THEN
HIDING EVERYTHING AROUND THE BEND
IF I'D ONLY KNOWN
SO MANY THINGS I WOULD HAVE CHANGED

I CAN STILL SEE THE FROZEN CLOTHES
BLOWING IN THE WIND
ANTICIPATING SUMMER AGAIN
ALL THAT'S LEFT THERE NOW
IS A FEW OLD TREES AND STONES
AND SO MANY FOND MEMORIES
REMINISCE, UNTIL MY EYES TURN TO MIST
AT THE MERE THOUGHT OF ALL OF THIS
