Lyrics: It Was Gone

IT WAS GONE

WRITTEN BY: J.R HILTON

DECEMBER 2016

WENT BACK TO THE OLD PLACE
AND IT WAS GONE
IT WAS MY SANCTUARY
AND MY HOME FOR SO LONG
THE GOOD TIMES WE HAD THERE
TOO MANY TO COUNT
THERE'S NOTHING LEFT BUT THIS OLD TREE
AND A FEW OLD BRICKS STARING BACK AT ME

THE TIMES HERE, I NEVER REALIZED WHAT I HAD
KIND OF MAKES ME SAD
THE PICTURES, REAL AND IN MY HEAD
ARE NEVER COMING BACK
IT'S LIKE THEIR DEAD
A VICTIM OF TIME
MEASURED IN YEARS
CAUGHT SOMEWHERE BETWEEN
THE MEMORIES AND FEARS

I COULD GET LOST HERE WITHOUT LEAVING
I COULD BE ANYTHING I WANTED
JUST BY BELIEVING
DID I SPEND TOO MUCH TIME DREAMING
EVERYBODY COMING AND GOING
ALWAYS SOMEONE THERE
STILL PLENTY OF ROOM TO BE ALONE

AT ANY GIVEN TIME
PEACE ON EARTH WAS MINE
THIS PLACE WAS AN EMPIRE
THIS PLACE USED TO SHINE
I TURNED AROUND TO SEE WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE
AND WHEN I TURNED BACK, IT WAS GONE
NOW I'M GATHERING UP THE MEMORIES
THAT I LEFT BEHIND
JUST THE ONES THAT I CAN FIND

EVERYBODY SCATTERED ON THE FOUR WINDS
JUST LIKE THIS PLACE THEIR GONE
WALKED AWAY ONE LAST TIME
I'LL NEVER SEE THIS PLACE AGAIN
I ONCE THOUGHT TIME STOOD STILL HERE
BUT IT WAS MOVING ON THE BREEZE
AND IN EACH BURNING SUNSET
FRAMED BETWEEN THE TREES
